These are a few of my favorite tools.

Development tools

  • JetBrains Rider

The IDE that I use for .NET programming. Visual Studio is not cross platform; Visual Studio for Windows and Visual Studio for Mac are two seperate products. Rider's UI is far superior.

  • JetBrains DataGrip

The IDE that I use for SQL. Supports almost any database.

  • RStudio

The IDE that I use for data science work.

Productivity

  • Obsidian

My current personal knowledge management software after trying Roam Research and Notion. Obsidian combines the simplicity of a markdown file with a powerful ecosystem of plugins. It's free and open source.

  • 1Password

My first and only password manager. It is expensive compared to other password managers but the developer tools are amazing.

  • Fastmail

I migrated to fastmail after deciding that I wanted to use a custom domain for email and move away from gmail.

Cloud Hosting

  • Netlify

My current personal knowledge management software after trying Roam Research and Notion. Obsidian combines the simplicity of a markdown file with a powerful ecosystem of plugins. It's free and open source.

  • Microsoft Azure

My first and only password manager. It is expensive compared to other password managers but the developer tools are amazing.

  • Linode

I migrated to fastmail after deciding that I wanted to use a custom domain for email and move away from gmail.

Chess

  • Lichess

The website to play online chess. The only serious competitor is Chess.com which is expensive and has less features.

  • Chessable

A chess learning website that is owned by Chess.com. Great for learning long lines with move repetition.
